This is a space for me to reflect on the business & share some of the ups + downs of being a Content Marketing freelancer in Edinburgh.
I’d also like to bring some of my personal life into these posts because I don’t think we can ever truly separate our work + home life. One will always affect the other. And, for me, freelancing is a way to enrich my home life + lead a happier non working life with greater flexibility. So, home life is really important to me. The final reason is to embrace vulnerability. I believe it’s really important to share the highs + lows, it’s easy to put on a brave face and to pretend that everything is perfect all of the time. But, we all have our own stories and our own challenges in life. I’d like to be more transparent about my own challenges & show them alongside the positive. December Happy Moments Went to see Alladin at the theatre It was a very spiritual month for me Quiet holiday season & new goals for 2020! December Challenges Finances are improving but still rocky Very short days in Scotland - no light Highly Spiritual Month December is my birthday month, I’m a Capricorn, Sagittarius cusper born on the 22nd December. As you can see from how I wrote out my happy moments, it was a deeply spiritual month. I don’t really have any specific “moments” but it was a huge month for me in learning more about my strengths and where I’d like to take myself next. I really enjoy writing & SEO (most of the time), but for a while I’ve been feeling like I don’t want to be doing this forever. I can’t really see myself in my 40’s and 50’s still doing the same thing. December was a month where I got the next piece of the puzzle. I won’t go into full details, but in summary I’m going to train to be a Clinical Psychologist and go back to Uni. I’ll apply this year to do a Psychology conversion course & then hopefully I can get into the doctorate and start my journey to becoming a Clinical Psychologist. The great thing about my freelancing business is that it can support me through this intense education path. It’s flexible enough to fit around studying & I think clients will also benefit from my extra knowledge in Psychology. I think that is one reason I am drawn to business & marketing, I have a talent for selling… which is basically working out what the motives are for the person you are speaking to and aligning the benefits of what you are selling with their motives. In marketing you have to be aware there are lots of different people out there with different priorities. So, my clients will benefit from this path and at the end of it I will be able to start working with people to help them heal & progress in life and I can get off the computer !! Which is the main thing I am not keen about when it comes to Digital Marketing, Writing & SEO. That’s all I have for this month. As you can see it was a bit more internal than external but big shifts happened for me. Next Month - January January isn’t going to a be a huge pushing the business forward month for me. The winters in Scotland are dark! Its getting slightly better now, the sunset is around 4pm instead of 3pm but during that day it is often just grey and drizzly. So, my plan is to have a quiet month. To do my client work and onboard the new clients, to re-negotiate current clients onto my new prices and packages and that’s about it. I’ll start looking out for new clients to start in March / April since I am now ensuring I have clients already booked ahead of time. Summary Of Priorities For The Business Onboard new clients Renegotiate my pricing with current clients as it has been updated for 2020
