Having more energy and feeling on top of the world is something that many of us strive for 24/7. About two years ago I quit my corporate job in order to start teaching mindfulness. I was practising and teaching every single day. Wellness became the world I lived by.
I couldn't go a day without my yoga, meditation, and a green juice. I'll admit my green juice usually had way more fruit than veg in it, but in the grand scheme of things if that's your unhealthiest trait I think you're doing quite well.
Feeling good and having lots of energy is definitely a great feeling. And I 100% believe wellness and business go together like um, can I say mac and cheese? Maybe in this context it should be more like celery and hummus, love that stuff.
But what happens when you feel really, really tired? What happens when circumstances in your life inhibit you from feeling 100% awesome? Sometimes life just kicks us in the gonads. And then it decides it's just going to keep on kicking for the fun of it.
And no matter what you do, you just feel tired.
I don't think it's just me who is feeling this tiredness. I've spoken to several other people who feel exactly the same way. Whether you believe in universal energy (like me), that it's a change of season or whatever else, if you are feeling tired and can't seem to shake it off this one is for you.
Because what I've realised is that actually there are some interesting qualities to this state we can definitely appreciate and benefit from in life and business.
1) Tiredness Breeds Directness
I don't know about you but when I am feeling tired I am lot more direct with my communication. Direct here isn't code word for rude, though potentially I may have verged on that a few times accidentally. But rudeness is never good, so that's not what I'm talking about.
Directness in a sense that you just say exactly what you want to say without sugar coating it. With less energy there is less to give over to worry and concern about what others might think. Tiredness kind of strips everything back, so it's just the message and the message alone which comes out. No overthinking it, just direct.
2) Tiredness Strips Away The Unnecessary
Much like it does in communication, tiredness strips away everything unnecessary in life as well. It becomes about doing what is most important. No longer is there the energy to do everything, so you are forced to choose.
Am I going to go and network this evening, do some yoga, or go home and finish my work? What is most important to me, in my life, right now?
3) Tiredness Forces Vulnerability
This is a difficult state for me to be in, I guess it is for all of us. Showing vulnerability isn't comfortable, it's scary. It is also quite empowering in a very odd way which I am just discovering. I never would have discovered it without feeling so tired! In the last few weeks, I've had some very honest conversations and shown sides of myself I wouldn't usually show (including writing this post). And out of that has come stronger relationships, more real conversations, and a deeper connection.
So, if you are feeling tired at the moment, and like each day is like getting on a new rollercoaster with 6 loopty loops and a runaway train (love that ride), then try looking at this state with a new perspective. Perhaps there are some benefits and some opportunities for growth for you and your business!
As always, I'd love to hear from you in the comments below, especially if you are feeling tired right now!
